How to backup-for dummies

One of the main things I get asked in my job as a computer technician is 'please save my work! It disappeared!' Now, I'm going to teach a magical thing called backup, which will stop you, the customer, having to pay me an hourly rate to try (and not always succeed) to recover your data.

Wii homebrew guide for Wii system menu 4.3

I promised on my Twitter that I would write a guide for this, so here it is. ONLY FOLLOW THIS GUIDE IF YOUR WII IS ON 4.3. Otherwise update to 4.3 before following this guide (or look around for another guide for your firmware).
You will need:
An SD card with about 800mb free, formatted as FAT32.
An wireless router or access point for your Wii to connect to
A Wii with 4.3 system menu installed
A copy of super smash bros. Brawl
Some free time (about 30 minutes)
What this will do:
Install the homebrew channel
Install BootMii, the unbricking tool (just in case)
Install Priloader, the system hacks tool
And install USB CFG Loader, allowing you to run backups from a thumb drive.

Also, in seemy related news, Portal 2 recently recieved an update for "Preparations for launch of Portal 2 updates this September". Hopefully the multiplayer DLC is due sometime soon.
Anyway, till next time, happy gaming!

Feel free to comment about it.

So THAT's Why....

So THAT's why Office crashes so much....

Own a Laptop with ATI Graphics? Need Drivers? Here you Go!

Having just recently bought myself a Toshiba Satellite L650, I thought I would look around for some driver updates for it, considering that they were more than 2 years old. Going to the Toshiba site didn't help, the just mirrored what I'd already had on the Laptops HDD! So, after a bit of googling, I've found the solution to the out-of-date ATI Graphics Driver.

So, here it is, with easy to follow instructions on how to use it. This appartently works with any laptop with a HD 5000 Series Graphics, and also some of the HD 6000 series. This update brings the drivers up to Catalyst Version 11.2, with the current for Desktops being 11.5. So far, I'm seeing a MASSIVE  performance improvement. Hopefully, if you're also having this problem, this'll solve it for you.

PVR's FTW

Using my PVR, I believe the hype is true that this kick the dvd recorder and VCR arse. Previous owner had left about 8hrs of Foxtel on it :D

However it was mostly muted :(

In Other news, schools back today, however, since i'm currently in exmouth, i'll head back to TAFE on the 18th.

So more TAFE work, more Blender stuff being done. Some stuff I did:

Simple Leaf, Top flower's a bit dodgy

Glass Jar from Home

With the release of Blender v2.57, I'll have to look into what has changed. Feel free to post comments on how these look.

Portal 2- ARG and Imminent Release

With the release date of Portal 2 drawing nearer, Valve Software has started an campaign to generate renewed interest in the game with the arrival of the Portal 2 ARG. The clues towards the end of this ARG is hidden accross the Indie games from the Potato Sack Pack, granting access to exclusive pre-release content such as cocept art. You can read about the progress of the ARG here: http://valvearg.com/wiki/.

EDIT: Portal 2 available for Pre-Load Now!

In the mean time, I'm getting ready to go on holidays, so most likely there won't be any new posts here anytime soon....

HTML 5

Been using the Firefox 4 Beta for a while now, and I've only recently seen what it's compatibility with HTML 5 are. For instance, check out this site:https://demos.mozilla.org/en-US/#remixingreality. Pretty much everything here is based on a standard of HTML 5 called webGL, a language for displaying graphics in a web page. No flash embeds, it's all in the HTML.

So if you're using the Firefox 4 Beta, or Google Chrome 9, check out these demos and be amazed.

EDIT: Firefox 4 is in release now, so everyone should be able to feel the HTML 5 love :D.
